Delta 11

Everywhere you look, Delta THC cannabinoid products can be found on store shelves. Delta 8, 9, and 10 THC have become household terms for those in the hemp community. However, there is one Delta THC cannabinoid that is becoming a focus for the scientific community.

At the time of this writing, there are more than 100 known cannabinoids within the hemp plant. Some, like Delta 8 THC, CBD, and CBN, we know quite a bit about. Others, we have only a base knowledge of. However, an influx of hemp biomass on the market has allowed research teams around the globe the opportunity to study these lesser-known cannabinoids in greater depth. One of these cannabinoids that have received attention in recent years is Delta 11 THC.

DELTA 11

What is Delta 11 THC?

Delta 11 THC can be found in both hemp and marijuana plants. Unlike CBD, this minor cannabinoid is psychoactive, meaning it produces a “high” sensation when ingested. It naturally occurs within the cannabis plant, whereas 11 Hydroxy THC is a byproduct.

Research surrounding Delta 11 THC is still very scarce and has only been studied on animal models. In a 1989 study from the University Department of Pharmacology at Oxford, the metabolism of Delta 11 THC was studied in mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, and cats.

According to the study, “Liver microsomes were prepared from rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, a cat and three strains of mice, and were incubated with delta-11-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-11-THC).”

Researchers observed that Delta 11 THC was metabolized differently in each animal’s liver microsome. The variety of results “emphasizes the need to make appropriate choices of animal models for metabolic and toxicological studies in humans.” The results of the study are very preliminary but offer a base for future research to build off of.

Delta THC cannabinoids have gained popularity in recent years, expediting the need for thorough research to fully understand the impact they have on our bodies. However, the consumer demand for Delta THC products derived from hemp has not only increased focus on research but product development as well.

While we may not know much about Delta 11 THC at the time of this writing, it can be assumed that Delta 11 will interact with an individual’s endocannabinoid system similar to the way Delta 8, 9, and 10 THC does. All three cannabinoids have been a focus within the medical and scientific communities for some time, giving us the best possible theory. However, we cannot yet determine how Delta 11 ranks in terms of potency when compared to other hemp derived Delta cannabinoids.

Will Delta 11 THC get me high?

Delta 11 THC is a psychoactive cannabinoid found within both the hemp and marijuana plants, though in varying quantities. It is one of the few cannabinoids that produces a pronounced “high” sensation in those who consume it. However, current research has not determined how potent Delta 11 THC is compared to other psychoactive cannabinoids like Delta 8 and 10 THC.

What kind of products can be made with Delta 11 THC?

Hemp enthusiasts impatiently waiting for Delta 11 products to hit the shelves can expect products similar to other Delta THC options to be available. Gummies and other edibles are the most convenient and popular options on the market. Vapes can also be expected to appear, similar to options already available to shoppers.

While derived products may be derived from federally legal hemp, consumers should be aware of any state legislation surrounding hemp-based Delta THC products. For questions regarding details about the laws and regulations in your particular state, it is advised to contact your state’s designated regulatory organization.

Is Delta 11 THC Legal?

At the time of this writing, Delta 11 THC derived from hemp is legal under the 2018 Farm Bill. However, state laws vary. For more information about your state, please contact the regulatory body in charge of your state’s hemp program.

Along with legalization status, consumers should know how to spot a legitimate Delta THC product. There are several things consumers can do to help choose a quality product, whether it is CBD or Delta THC.

How To Choose A Quality Delta 11 THC Product

When Delta 11 products hit store shelves, shoppers will need to know how to choose a quality product. Like other hemp products, including CBD and Delta 8, shoppers can use several identifiers to help them pick out a product that works.

The first thing to look for when shopping for a Delta 11 THC product is a Certificate of Analysis (or COA for short). A COA is the result of a third party lab test that determines potency, terpene profile, and other important information. All hemp products are required to have a COA by law, and a product without one is a major red flag.

Secondly, shoppers can look at the labeling for several key things including contact information for the brand and suggested serving sizes. High quality brands take great pride in producing excellent packaging for their products. Since many avenues of marketing are not available to hemp brands, the packaging is important.

Finally, shoppers can look at the phrasing used on the packages. Under FDA regulations in the US, brands cannot use sensational phrasing such as ‘miracle’, ‘cures’, or ‘treats’. High quality brands take special care to ensure that they adhere to these regulations, whether it is on the packaging, on social media, or in educational material. Brands that use sensational or misleading phrasing will often cut corners in other places, leaving behind a product of lesser quality.

Will Delta 11 make you fail a drug test?

Even though Delta 11 THC can be extracted from hemp, it is still a psychoactive cannabinoid. At the time of this writing, we do not know much about Delta 11, however, it can be safe to assume it will mimic the properties of other more well-known Delta THC cannabinoids. As such, those who consume any Delta THC cannabinoids should be aware of the risk of failing a drug test.
