Mansfield 4
The city of Mansfield, Texas is a suburb in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. It is located in Tarrant, Ellis, and Johnson counties. The city is approximately 30 miles northeast of Fort Worth and 20 miles northwest of Dallas. In addition to being close to Dallas and Fort Worth, the city is bordered by the cities of Arlington and Plano. Despite its relatively small size, Mansfield has a large community of residents.
The city was first settled in the early 1850s. In 1853, eight families from Illinois moved to the area. Three brothers, Samuel, and James, settled in the vicinity of Mansfield. The settlement eventually became known as Gibson Community. By the 1860s, there were more than 2,000 people living in the town. The population of Mansfield was only around 1,375 in 1961. But that didn’t mean that the town couldn’t be a thriving suburb. In the 1960s, the city became a center for manufacturing and landed a government contract to supply a string of forts.
